Collection: Paradise Parade

2019 was a rollercoaster ride for me. I gave birth to a beautiful baby girl (her name is Iggy! and no it ain't short for nothin') and life seemed complete with her around. A couple of weeks later, I lost my sister, Mindy. It broke my heart and spirit completely and my world felt shaken.

When Mindy and I were kids, we used to do a lot of fun s*** together. But as we grew older, we led quite separate lives. I love my sister but I found it difficult to express it. I would bicker and nag at her often thinking that it showed that I cared (Mindy was older but she had a meeker demeanour and I was often short-tempered and bossy with her). It took losing her for me to realise that I should have shown her love in a different way. Her passing made me ponder on things in a way that I've never done before. We were brought up to care too much about what people thought of us and to a certain degree, I think we are all prisoners of that.

When 2019 came to an end, I was barely starting to get the hang of things as a mom and had no physical nor mental capacity to create new designs. But with the turn of a new year, I decided to write up some resolutions. One of the things I wanted to do was to spend more time on the label and more importantly, to do that thoughtfully. I realised that in running the business for the last four years, I had quite slowly been driven to create based on what made business sense rather than be in touch with what I truly wanted to create as a designer.

So I went back to the drawing board and started doodling (I used to be very conscious of my doodles because I felt doodles weren't exactly an art form and it seemed rather childish). But somehow having Iggy, coupled with the realisation of how life is really too damn fickle for me to care too much, spurred me on. I created the LOVE LEOPARD, THE FUNKY EGG and PEEK-A-BOO-BOO prints as an ode to what I've learnt this past year.

2020 may have kicked off with the COVID-19 virus sending the world into a chaotic standstill but in these dark season, there's really no better time for me to tell this virus "UP YOURS" by unleashing this collection of love, bravery and self-discovery unto the world.

In the words of Orison Swett Marden,

"Paradise is here or nowhere: you must take your joy with you or you will never find it"

Let the parade begin.
